Make a Towel Cake for a Baby Shower | Towel Supercenter

Have you been asked to arrange and host a baby shower for a friend or relative? Picking the right decor can become tricky, especially if you want to exhibit some creativity. However, there is one tried-and-true method to ensure the next baby shower you throw is memorable — create a towel cake. While it is whimsical, the new mom can also use the baby towels and will appreciate the gift's practicality.

What Is a Baby Shower Towel Cake?

A towel cake isn't meant to be eaten, but to stand out as a decoration or centerpiece. Constructed of towels and augmented by ribbons, toys, garland or other trinkets, a baby shower towel cake can make an awesome standout display.

Here's the best news — you don't have to be crafty to make a towel cake that looks fantastic. Making towel cakes is often a faster, easier process than making a real cake from scratch. All you need are two large bath towels, two regular-sized hand towels and two washcloths. Plus, you'll want to have some diaper pins and a package of ribbon on hand.

How to Make the First Layer of a Towel Cake

Your bath towels will serve as the bottom tier of your triple-layered towel cake. Lay the towels end to end lengthwise on a table, clean floor or a bed. They will look like a very long rectangular flag. Use diaper pins to attach the bath towels where they meet. You may want to overlap the towels to make this process easier.

After securing the bath towels together, fold the long rectangle to make it even skinnier until you get a very lengthy, double-thick layer of fabric. Starting at one of the small ends, tightly roll up the towels. When you have created your base "cake" layer, the roll will look like a huge circle. Have another person help you keep the towels from unfolding by tying ribbon around the base roll. Use a double knot so the ribbon won't come undone.

Making the Towel Cake's Second and Third Layers

You're going to repeat the steps above with your hand towels and washcloths. The circle formed from your hand towels will become the baby shower towel cake's second layer. The tiny circle formed from the washcloths will be the top tier.

At this point, you need to put your three circular layers together. On a table — or cardboard base if you plan to move your towel cake to another room or location — set up your first, second and third towel layers. Each layer should be a little smaller than the last, creating a picturesque pyramid.

Decorating a Themed Baby Shower Towel Cake

To enhance each layer of your towel cake, wrap them in anything from ribbon to tiny, battery-operated holiday lights. Make sure to top the highest tier with a small toy or another object depending on the baby shower's theme.

Use your imagination to figure out what else to put on your towel cake, but don't weigh it down. From rose petals to confetti, practically anything can make your towel cake look good enough to eat.

Consider buying wholesale premium colorful towels as the baby shower towels you use for each layer. You'll love the effect of the different colors, and so will the mom-to-be.
